Eduroam & P2P Connectivity Issue

    Eduroam (Education Roaming) is a global Wi-Fi network that enables students, researchers, and staff to access the internet securely using their institution's credentials, both on campus and at over 10,000 participating institutions in more than 100 countries. With millions of access points and hundreds of millions of daily authentications, it's a core part of academic infrastructure.

    However, we've identified an issue: when users connect via eduroam, our peer-to-peer desktop application cannot establish connections through port 56000, even though this works reliably behind NAT or on public networks. This suggests that eduroam networks may be blocking or filtering traffic on this port, preventing P2P communication.

    We're surprised this issue hasn't been widely reported, given the massive use of eduroam within the university and research community. We're currently investigating potential workarounds or alternate port strategies.

    Universities explicitly state that p2p applications are not allowed. I guess students start using Bittorrent as soon as they get access :) :
