While testing the discussions I noticed that when going inside a thread to read a comment, after I finished reading that specific comment, I want to read another thread under that same discussion but the back button takes me to the top level of all discussions instead of taking me back one level to the discussion where I was before. This makes it hard to read several replies or threads because I have to do too many clicks.

I think the button should take you back to the previous level view instead of taking you to the top level. If we also want a shortcut to the top level, we can have some sort of breadcrumbs for discussions that can help you navigate the levels of threads.
